The Appoquinimink Early Childhood Center's PTA held its final fundraiser until at least the 2014-2015 school year on May 3.
The Chick-fil-A off Route 301 donated a portion of the revenue it generated from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. toward the PTA.
PTA President Jenn Molengraft said the fundraiser brought in more than $100, which will be used to host an end-of-the-year party for the school's pre-K and kindergarten students, as well as its teachers and staff.
Appoquinimink Early Childhood Center will be closed through the 2013-2014 school year, one of several steps district officials say are necessary to help them close an $2 million shortfall next year. The school board voted in April to temporarily close the early childhood center for one year, along with Townsend Elementary School, which was closed this year for renovations.
A 15-cent hike in the school tax rate that will be put before voters on Thursday, combined with another $305,000 in spending cuts approved last month, will allow the district to close its funding gap and consolidate all pre-K programs at the Appoquinimink Early Childhood Center by the 2013-2014 school year.
