Julie M. Gilbert, 56, of Middletown, DE passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 2, 2013.
Born on February 23, 1957 in Framingham MA, she was the daughter of the late Ervin and Jeanne (Madden) Welch.
Julie grew up in Framingham and was a graduate of Framingham North High School. She was a loyal New England Patriots fan and would catch the game whenever she could, which was no easy feat living in Middletown, DE.
Julie married her high school sweetheart, Mark Gilbert on September 9, 1978 at St. George Church in Framingham MA. They moved to Middletown in 1987. Julie was employed by the Appoquinimink School System since 1993, where she worked in the Middle School main office.
She loved her job and all the wonderful people she worked with.
Julie had a love for the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia and all of its beauty. She had a great interest in history and traveled to places like Gettysburg and Lancaster, PA and Washington DC, where she was interested in learning and enjoying the wonder of this country’s beginnings.
She was a wonderful, kind, caring and loving woman and was well liked by all those who knew her. She was the epitome of patience and thoughtfulness. She will be greatly missed by everyone.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Diane Welch and Charlotte A. (Welch) Plakas; mother-in-law, Katherine Gilbert; nephew, Michael Plakas and a beloved cousin, Nancy (Bryant) Masse.
Julie was the loving wife to her husband, Mark; mother of two sons, Shawn Gilbert of Middletown and Kevin Gilbert and his wife, Heather of Clovis, NM; grandmother to her beloved grandson, Logan Gilbert of New Castle, DE; sister to Stephen Welch and his wife, Tracey of Framingham MA and Joseph Welch and his wife, Lori of Dudley MA, sister-in-law to Curtis Gilbert and his wife, Lorie of Dundee, OR; sister-in-law to Kelly Gilbert and her significant other, Lisa Bernhard of Foster City, CA, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends, both in MA and DE.
Friends may visit from 6:00-8:00 pm Monday evening, May 6 at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad Street in Middletown. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 7 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 371 E. Main Street in Middletown. Interment will be private.
