St. Georges scored three goals in the first half, then went on to beat Mt. Pleasant 5-1 Monday afternoon in girls' soccer. It was the Lady Hawk's tenth win of the season against only two losses.
The St. Georges girls' soccer team started slowly but finished strongly in a 5-1 home victory over Mt. Pleasant HS Monday afternoon. Lady Hawks Coach Bonnie Mills said she felt the team played a little erratically, despite scoring a pair of goals in the first seven minutes of the game. “I think we started out a little sloppy at the beginning, but scoring those early goals helped us relax and bring it together. We were able to play better at the point of attack, especially in the second half,” she said. The Hawks have won eight games in a row, and have only given up two goals in that span . “I was pleased with our play in the second half, we played as a team and we moved the ball around well,” said Mills. St. Georges improved to 10-2 on the season and will play Christiana on the road Wednesday at 3:30 p.m., followed by another road game against St. Mark's on Thursday at 5 p.m. Mt. Pleasant's record dropped to 5-7 during the 2013 campaign. The Green Knights will try to break their two game losing streak on Wednesday afternoon when they host Brandywine HS at 3:30 p.m.
