  • Mary G. (Walsh) D’Amico, 75, of Middletown, DE and formerly of Oakdale, NY passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home surrounded by her family on Sunday, May 12, 2013. Born in St. Albans, Queens, NY, she was the youngest of seven children born to Mary Ellen (Muldowney) and Thomas J. Walsh. Mary attended St. Catherine of Sienna School in St. Albans, Queens, NY, followed by Dominican High School and Brown’s Business School. She worked as a secretary at Sun Chemical, Sperry Systems Management and retired as a food service worker at Connetquot Central School District. An exceptionally warm and friendly person, Mary never met a stranger, and her home was a frequent destination for family gatherings over the years. Eight years ago, she and her husband, Stephen, moved from Long Island, NY to Springmill in Middletown, DE. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, and along with her husband enjoyed playing cards, going to Atlantic City and spending time with family and friends. Mary also enjoyed water aerobics at Springmill and exercising at the MOT Senior Center. She was an avid reader, especially the novels of Maeve Binchy. Mary is survived by her husband of 54 years, Stephen A. D’Amico; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ellen and Hugh Webb of Fairfax, VA and Stephanie and Glenn Hassig of Bear, DE; a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen W. and Ellen D’Amico of Morrow, OH; five grandchildren, Stephen and Megan Webb, Mary Qin and Emma Hassig and Sean D’Amico and three brothers, Joseph, Bill and Jack Walsh. Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 on Saturday, May 18 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 371 E. Main Street in Middletown, where friends may visit with Mary’s family one hour prior. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, Mary’s family suggests contributions be made to Brother Alexander Walsh, Amanecer Street Kids Program, c/o Mary Knoll Fathers & Brothers, PO Box 305, Mary Knoll, NY 10545-0305.
