The Townsend-area resident presented a $2,500 check to the Middletown High School Band Boosters that will be used to help fund the Cavalier Marching Band’s trip to the London New Year’s Day Parade on Jan 1, 2014.
Powers also presented a $2,500 check to the MOT Jean Birch Senior Center to replace an HVAC unit at the facility, which serves more than 500 people.
Powers also presented a $1,000 check to the Vietnam Vets/LegacyVets Motorcycle Club to help them replace a fence around their 40-acre clubhouse property on Fleming Landing Road near Townsend
Each grant was supplied from $7,500 in annual funding New Castle County council members can allocate to nonprofits and other organizations.
Funding for the Middletown High School Band Boosters’ grant was provided by Powers and Councilman Bill Bell of Odessa, while the other two grants were supplied exclusively by Powers.
