A 22-year-old Maryland man is in serious condition following a multiple-vehicle crash on Del. Route 1, north of Odessa, early Thursday morning.
Jadira I. Green of Fort Washington, Md. was driving a 1998 Buick Century on northbound Route 1, just south of the Biddles Toll Plaza, when he came to a complete stop in the left lane sometime before 4:10 a.m., according to Delaware State Police spokesman Sgt. Paul Shavack.
The lights on the Buick were off and Green was not wearing a seatbelt when a northbound 2007 Chevrolet box truck, driven by 37-year-old Chang Song of Camden-Wyoming, slammed into the back of the car, Shavack said.
The collision forced the Buick into the right lane of the interstate where it was struck on the passenger side by a northbound 1999 Coach Tour Bus, driven by 74-year-old Ralph Rhoades of Laurel.
No other occupants were on the bus at the time.
Song and Rhoades were each wearing seatbelts and did not require medical treatment, Shavack said.
Green was taken to Christiana Hospital Trauma Center with unspecified injuries.
The crash remains under investigation, Shavack said.
Northbound Route 1 was closed for about four hours while police investigated the crash and cleared the scene.
