  • Two Sussex County men are facing drug charges after police reportedly found them carrying more than 700 bags of heroin during a traffic stop on Del. Route 1 near Odessa on Saturday.
Alan Watkins, a 24-year-old Bridgeville resident, and Kyle Bitler, a 25-year-old Ellendale resident, were passengers in a Ford Taurus that troopers stopped for speeding on southbound Route 1 near Middletown-Odessa Road about 2 p.m., according to Delaware State Police spokesman Sgt. Paul Shavack.
Bitler reportedly was found in possession of 37 bags of heroin, stamped “Death Injection,” totaling nearly 1 gram.
A search of the vehicle turned up another 681 bags of heroin, stamped “Death Injection” and “High Heat,” totaling more than 17 grams.
Shavack said troopers were able to connect those bags to Watkins.
The total street value of the 718 bags seized Saturday is about $1,000, he said.
Watkins is charged with possession of heroin in a Tier 5 quantity and possession with intent to deliver heroin. He was later released after posting a $7,000 secured bond.
Bitler is charged with possession of heroin. He was released on a $5,000 unsecured bond.
The 39-year-old male driver, who police did not identify, is charged with driving while revoked and speeding. He was released on a $1,000 unsecured bond.
Shavack said the incident remains under investigation.
