Laura Dorothy Klasewitz Singer, 75, died, May 14, at the Heartland Hospice in Wilmington, DE. Laura was born in Brooklyn, NY, to Abe and Gussie Klasewitz. She is survived by Sheldon Singer, her husband of 54 years, her daughter Michele Miller of Brooklyn, sons, Joel Singer of Bethesda, MD, and David Singer of Durango, CO; 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, and 2 step great grandchildren. Laura lived a rich and full life, and her passing will be mourned by a wide circle of friends and family.
Laura lived in Middletown, DE in the Spring Mill community since 2004. Prior to moving to Spring Mill, she was a long term resident of Pearl River, NY, where she and her husband Shelly owned Singer's “Friendly” Pharmacy and Surgical Supplies for 34 years. Laura was energetic and had many interests, including reading, crosswords, Sudoku, hiking, camping, needlepoint, music and travel. Over a period of 15 years and 100,000 miles, she crisscrossed the United States with Shelly and their dog Brook Lynn in their Winnebago Adventurer, and was a member of the Chai Motor Home Club. She was a member of the Nanuet Hebrew Center in NY where she served as president of the Sisterhood, and Beth Shalom in Wilmington, DE. She loved studying and chanting haftorah, which she did many times at both synagogues. As part of her fight against a form of cancer known as Chronic Lymphocitic Leukemia, she raised funds for research, testified before the FDA on a promising trial drug, and participated in numerous walk-a-thons. She was an excellent cook, and loved hosting and visiting her family and friends.
