  • Helen G. Carson, 88, of Middletown, DE and formerly of Jersey City, NJ, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 15, 2013 at Cadia/Broadmeadow Healthcare. Born on February 17, 1925 in Raleigh, NC, she was the first of two daughters born to the late Geneva (Guye) and Frank Maye. Helen retired from Union County Juvenile Detention Center in Linden, NJ where she dedicated many years as a Juvenile Correction Officer. She was selfless in nature and offered guidance to numerous children at the center, treating each as one of her own. She enjoyed decorating, shopping and working on ceramics. With a passion for cooking and baking she loved entertaining family gatherings. Her family will always remember the beautiful garden she kept and the flowers she grew with her loving and nurturing hands. Throughout her life, Helen was a poised, dignified and fashionable woman, traits she passed on to her two beautiful daughters. Her wonderful memories, warm smile, gentle hugs and unconditional love will always be cherished by her family. She graced this earth with her presence and will be dearly missed by those who were blessed to know her. Helen leaves a legacy of cherished memories to her two devoted daughters, Thelma Watkins and her husband, Norman and Toni Skinner; a sister, Frances Williams; two precious granddaughters, Robyn and Starr; several nieces and nephews and will be especially missed by Tootsie, her four legged friend who shared many hours brightening her day. On behalf of Helen’s family, they would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and nurses at Cadia/Broadmeadow Healthcare for the special care and attention they shared with their mother in her home away from home. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm on Monday, May 20 at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad Street in Middletown, where friends may visit with Helen’s family two hours prior. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720.
