Archmere Academy scored two first half goals, then shut down St. Georges offense in a 2-0 victory in the first round of the DIAA state soccer tournament in a game played at Caravel Academy.
Archmere Academy scored two first half goals, then playerd air-tight defense in a 2-0 victory over St. Georges Tech Wednesday night in the first round of the DIAA state soccer tournament in a game played at Caravel Academy. In the second game, Wilmington Friends defeated Appoquinimink by the identical score of 2-0.
The Lady Auks Gillian Sweeney scored off a crossing pass out of the corned set up by Camyrn Hicks at the ten-minute mark.
Archmere continued to press, which helped develop into more offensive opportunities. That effort resulted in a second goal at the 37th minute off the foot of Kassidy McVey.
In the second half, the Lady Jaguars tried to counter-attack, but were unable to penetrate the rugged Archmere defense.
"We played well tonight, but couldn't get our offense going. Their defense kept us wide and away from the front of the net," said Jaguar Coach Bonnie Mills."We are only losing one senior this year, so we will have many experienced players coming back next season," she said.
