  • A 29-year-old Middletown man was arrested on a theft charge Wednesday morning after allegedly stealing a donation can from a local grocery store.
Quentin C. Watson grabbed the donation can – and about $50 in donations meant for the Children’s Miracle Network – from the Food Lion Supermarket at 501 W. Main St. just before 9:30 p.m., according to Middletown Police Chief Henry Tobin.
Watson fled the area before police arrived, but officers were later able to identify him as the thief, Tobin said.
He reportedly was taken into custody at his home in the 100 block of East Lake Street about 7 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Watson is currently being held at the Howard Young Correctional Institution in Smyrna on a $1,000 secured bond.
He also has been ordered not to have any contact with the Middletown Food Lion, Tobin said.
