The 27th annual Statewide Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics will be held from June 5-7.

The 27th annual Statewide Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics will be held from June 5-7.

The Torch Run will involve more than 500 law enforcement officers spanning 160 miles. The run will begin at 7 p.m. in Rehoboth Beach Wednesday. The First State Band will lead the gala Torch Run sendoff from the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand. The Torch will start at Lewes, Georgetown, and Delmar Thursday and will travel to Milford, Harrington, Dover, Smyrna, and Odessa. The event will continue Friday from Troop 9 with the torch proceeding to the Wilmington Police Headquarters in Wilmington for a 1:20 p.m. celebration. The event will end with a final leg into the University of Delaware's Stadium for the official opening of the 2013 Summer Games.

Special Olympics Delaware provides a year-round program of quality sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities and/or cognitive delays.
