  • Raymond J. Hancock, age 87, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, June 2, 2013. Raymond was born in Erie, PA on May 10, 1926, son of the late Ray and Mabel Hancock. He proudly served his country during WWII in the US Army Air Force, stationed in the Middle East. He went on to receive a BA from Gannon College, an M.Ed. from the University of Delaware, an Ed.D. from Temple University, an M.S.L.S. from Drexel University and a Juris Doctorate from Delaware Law School. Raymond had a fulfilling career as a teacher, principal, professor, librarian and a public defender. He also enjoyed playing the piano, drawing, gardening and amateur theater. Raymond is survived by his beloved wife, Hazel (Lawrie) Hancock; son, Raymond W. Hancock and his wife Margaret; son, Douglas Hancock and his wife, A. Christine; daughter, Jennifer Chizuk and her husband, Frank Schultz, and grandson, Brent Hancock. A viewing will be held on Friday, June 7, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC, 212 N. Broad Street in Middletown, where funeral services will begin at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow 1:00 pm at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, DE.
