  • Brick Mill Elementary School’s new assistant principal will be a new face in the Appoquinimink School District.
Roberta Jacobs, the 2006 Teacher of the Year for the Colonial School District, has been hired to fill the vacancy created by the impending retirement f Patsy Warner, the school’s assistant principal since 2004, district officials announced today.
Jacobs’ first day will be July 1.
“I’m looking forward to the opportunity to work with the staff, students, parents and community to improve student achievement while developing relationships that last forever,” said the Long Island-native, who holds a bachelor’s degree in education and master’s degree in instruction at the University of Delaware.
Jacobs most recently served as a student advisor at Calvin R. McCollough Middle School in New Castle. She previously taught third and fifth grades at Castle Hills Elementary Schools and served as a trainer in math and technology usage, as well as a summer school administrator.
“It’s exciting to welcome new talent into the district [and] I look for great things from Roberta,” Appoquinimink Superintendent Matthew Burrows said in a statement issued Thursday. “But I have to confess to mixed emotions, because her arrival coincides with the retirement of Patsy Warner, one of the most passionate, energetic educators I’ve ever had the pleasure to work with. When Patsy retires at the end of June, everyone who’s ever worked with her, all the children and families she’s touched, will be saddened.”
