  • NASCAR driver Jason Leffler was killed in a crash at the Bridgeport Speedway in southern New Jersey Wednesday night, Reuters reports.
    Leffler, 37, died from injuries sustained when his car slammed into a wall during a race at the speedway. He was brought to a nearby hospital after the crash, but was pronounced dead shortly after 9 p.m., according to Reuters.

    "NASCAR extends its thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies to the family of Jason Leffler, who passed away earlier this evening," the racing organization said in a statement via Twitter. "For more than a decade, Jason was a fierce competitor in our sport and he will be missed."
    Leffler won the Nationwide Series twice and placed 17th in the Indianapolis 500 in 2000.
    Leffler is survived by his wife, Allison, and their son Charlie, who graduated from kindergarten last month, according to NASCAR.
