  • A Philadelphia man was caught with five pounds of marijuana after Delaware state troopers pulled him over for speeding on Route 1 north of Middletown on Thursday.
At about 3 p.m., troopers patrolling near Biddles Toll Plaza saw a Cadillac Deville speeding on southbound Route 1. Troopers pulled over the car and talked to the driver, later identified as Vance Turner, 24, of Philadelphia, Pa.
While questioning Turner, a trooper smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the car. A computer check also revealed that Turner's driver's license was suspended.
Troopers searched the car and found a shopping bag containing five pounds of high-grade marijuana packaged in five separate large plastic storage bags. The total street value is approximately $10,000, police said.
Turner was taken into custody and charged with possession of marijuana in tier 2 quantity, possession with intent to deliver marijuana, speeding, and driving without a valid license, police said.
He was arraigned and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $10,150 secured bond to await a court appearance.
Troopers are continuing to investigate this incident.
