The railroad crossing on the west end of Boyds Corner Road will remain closed to traffic until 9 p.m. Monday, after weather delayed final work on the project Friday.
Norfolk Southern has been conducting repairs to the train tracks between Route 896/Summit Bridge Road and Cedar Lane Road since 9 a.m. Monday.
The project was slated to wrap up at 9 p.m. on Friday, but work was postponed today due to heavy rainfall.
"In addition to working on the tracks, Norfolk Southern also will be putting down a new layer of hot mix that will make crossing the tracks a much smoother ride when they're finished," she said.
During the project, traffic that otherwise would have been heading east on Boyds Corner Road will be directed to head further south on Route 896 to Marl Pit Road, which connects to Cedar Lane Road and U.S. Route 13.
Conversely, traffic heading west on Boyds Corner Road will be directed to head south on Cedar Lane Road to westbound Marl Pit Road, which also can be accessed from U.S. Route 13, immediately north of Odessa.
The Boyds Corner Road project is one of nearly three dozen railroad crossing improvements Norfolk Southern is undertaking in Delaware this summer.
A similar project is slated to close both east- and westbound lanes of U.S. Route 40/Pulaski Highway, just east of Del. Route 72, in Bear from Aug. 9 to Aug. 26.
