MOT defeated Milford 15-5 to win the District One Junior baseball championship.
The MOT Junior All-Stars scored seven runs in the first inning and pounded out a total of 15 hits to defeat the Milford All-Stars 15-5 Tuesday night at MOT's Silver Lake sports complex. The six-inning victory gave MOT the District One Junior Division (13-14 YO) championship. "That big first inning took a lot of pressure off of our backs, and it put us in the driver's seat. We scored those seven big runs and never looked back," said MOT head coach Vince Green.
The win comes on the heels of MOT's amazing 4-3 come-from-behind victory Monday night in the first elimination game. MOT scored a run in the seventh to force the deciding game Tuesday night. A Milford victory in either game would have given them the title.
"We dropped that first game of the tournament, but we came out and played hard, and we continued to grow in all five games we played. It's a great feeling, and it was definitely a great team effort." said Green.
After the incredible first inning, MOT would continue the offensive onslaught by scoring two runs on two hits in the second inning, one run on three hits in the fourth, and capping the game with five more tallies in the top of the sixth.
Meanwhile, MOT's pitching kept Milford at bay, allowing three runs in the bottom of the second inning and two more in the fifth.
"We have plenty of pitching, and a lot of teams underestimated us, and I think we were fortunate to have a good group of pitchers. Again, it's all about the players and it was a great team effort," said Green.
The MOT All-Stars now advance to the Junior Division State Tournament this weekend as the District One champions. They will play the District Two and Three champs, from Sussex and New Castle Counties, for the opportunity to become state titlists.
