  • A 28-year-old Maryland man was arrested in Middletown on Saturday after police found him in possession of a stolen vehicle.
Christian V. Salgado of Kennedyville, Md., was arrested at a home in the 100 block of Crawford Street about 10:15 a.m. after a Middletown police officer spotted the stolen 2005 Jeep Cherokee parked behind the residence, according to Middletown Police Chief Henry Tobin.
Middletown police had been on the lookout for the vehicle since Friday when Maryland State Police notified them that Salgado might be heading here, he said.
According to Maryland State Police, Salgado was arrested on a second-degree assault charge following a domestic incident involving the vehicle's 25-year-old owner last week.
Following his arraignment, Salgado reportedly returned to the victim's home in Kennedyville about 6:45 a.m. on Friday and asked to borrow the Jeep to go to work.
The female owner refused, but Salgado allegedly managed to get a hold of the keys and took the vehicle without permission.
Salgado is charged in Delaware with one count of receiving stolen property greater than $1,500.
He later was released on a $2,000 unsecured bond.
An investigation into the theft in Maryland is ongoing and state police there said additional charges are pending.
Tobin said the Jeep has since been returned to its owner.
