  • A 38-year-old Townsend woman was arrested Sunday morning, just hours after she allegedly attempted to grab money out of a Wawa cash register.
Amy L. Oliver was taken into custody after police tracked her back to her home, according to Delaware State Police spokesman Cpl. John Day.
Oliver reportedly entered the Wawa at 1515 N. Dupont Highway about 5:23 a.m. Sunday morning and purchased a pack of gum.
But when the cashier opened the cash register, Oliver allegedly attempted to grab cash from the till.
Day said Oliver and the unidentified cashier briefly struggled over the cash until another employee intervened.
Oliver than fled the business empty-handed and drove off.
Witnesses were able to provide police with a description of the vehicle and its license plate number, which police traced back to Townsend.
Oliver is charged with one count of attempted robbery.
She later was released on a $1,000 unsecured bail.
