In a letter to Russian authorities, Attorney General Eric Holder said that the U.S. will not seek the death penalty for intelligence leaker Edward Snowden. Snowden had made these claims in seeking asylum with Russia and other countries. Holder said the current charges against Snowden don’t make him eligible for the death penalty, and if further charges are filed, death would not be an option.

“Guilty.” - Accused Cleveland kidnapper Ariel Castro, responding to a judge in court today. Castro agreed to a plea deal that will spare him from the possibility of a death sentence but that gives him life in prison without parole. The deal also means the kidnapped women won’t have to testify at a trial.
