The 20th annual Olde Tyme Peach Festival will be held in Middletown on Saturday, Aug. 17. Here are some of the highlights. For a full schedule, see the Peach Festival booklet in the Aug. 16 Middletown Transcript newspaper available at stores throughout the MOT area.
PARADE STARTS AT 9 A.M.
The Grand Marshal of this year's Peach Festival parade is Maj. Gen. Frank Vavala, Adjutant General, Delaware National Guard.
The parade will step off promptly at 9 a.m. from Everett Meredith Middle School, heading north on Broad Street. The Middletown Police and their Honor Guard will lead the parade, followed by local dignitaries and Little Miss Peach. Paige Vascik will sing the National Anthem as the Honor Guard reaches the judging area at the corner of Main and Broad streets.
At the Broad Street reviewing stand, 94.7 WDSD will once again emcee the parade. Judges there will rate participants for trophies to be awarded in six categories.
Groups that perform are limited to two minutes per presentation. The parade will then turn east on Main Street. At Catherine Street, the route turns south, ending at Silver Lake Elementary School.
The entries in the parade will include the Delaware National Guard Band, Appoquinimink High School Band and Middletown High School Band. There will also be antique cars, trucks, fire trucks, Victorian outfits, horses and many surprises.
