Silver Lake Elementary School will provide elected officials from throughout the state with a lesson in the Common Core State Standards.
The school at 200 E. Cochran St. in Middletown was selected by the Delaware Department of Education to represent New Castle County in its “Common Core Back-to-School Night” Program.
Each of the three chosen schools will provide a 30-minute, hand-on lesson in both reading and math to Gov. Jack Markell, Delaware Education Secretary Mark Murphy and school board members from districts across the ounty, including Brandywine, Colonial, Christina, Red Clay and the vo-tech schools.
DDOE officials said the lessons are intended to demonstrate the application of Common Core State Standards, which are defined as clearly establish benchmarks students are expected to meet in each grade and in various subjects.
Other schools selected to provide “Common Core Back-to-School Night” programs include the Capital School District’s Booker T. Washington Elementary and Indian River School District’s Millsboro Middle School.
