Middletown’s football team started the 2013 season with a 35-8 road victory over Concord Saturday morning.
The Cavaliers were led by senior quarterback Darius Wade who was 12 for 16 in the passing department for 216 yards and two touchdowns.
Wade also scored a touchdown on special teams and made a touchdown-saving tackle on a kickoff.
Senior wide receiver Chris Godwin also made a big contribution to the victory by scoring a touchdown and also throwing a 31-yard option pass to end Garrett Maniatis on a third-and-15 situation. The Cavaliers then scored on a 1-yard run by Khalil Williams.
Defenseman Dennis Berger also scored on a 26-yard interception return early in the third quarter to give Middletown a 21-8 lead.
Concord actually had a short-lived 8-7 lead in the first quarter on a touchdown by senior fullback Matt Mellette and a two point conversion by quarterback Patrick Crowley.
Middletown senior place-kicker Claire Gerlitz was 5-5 on her PAT attempts.
The 1-0 Cavaliers travel to Dover next weekend to play 0-1 Caesar Rodney, who lost to Salesianum in overtime Saturday night.
