Summit Aviation near Middletown recently gave a private tour of its new Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform to U.S. Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.).
The ISR platform is an Australian-built Mahindra Aerospace GippsAero GA8 Astrovan that Summit Aviation modifies with customizable hardware and software packages to provide domestic law enforcement agencies with the types of surveillance capabilities previously available only to military agencies.
“It was a pleasure to have Sen. Carper visit our facility and familiarize him with our capabilities, as well as our staff,” Summit Aviation General Manager Ralph Kunz said.
The tour also focused on the three Sikorsky S-76 helicopters Summit Aviation has modified for the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol, company officials said.
“The role of government is to create a nurturing environment for jobs and job creation, which is why I visit companies like Summit Aviation when I’m back in Delaware,” Carper said in a release. “Summit Aviation provides high-tech jobs to Delaware’s world-class workforce, while continuing to innovate in the aviation industry. That’s a win-win for Delaware’s economy.”
