  • High school football fans joined the Middletown High Cavaliers football in wearing pink Friday for the second-annual Beat the Beast football game.
The two-time defending state champion Cavaliers football team donned pink jerseys bearing the names of local cancer patients and survivors during their 42-0 victory of DelCastle Technical High School.
Fans, students and school staff joined the effort by filling Cavaliers stadium with a sea of pink, including $10 commemorative T-shirts and $1 bracelets.
At halftime, Middletown resident Chris Hansell won a raffle drawing for a pink Cavaliers football helmet signed by the team.
After the game, the players also presented their pink jersey to the families members of the community members who paid to sponsor them.
All proceeds will be donated to Beat the Beast, a Delaware non-profit that raises money for the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children and Kay’s Kamp, an annual weeklong program for children with cancer held at St. Andrews School.
