The MOT area played host to two melodious events this weekend. First, the Middletown Area Chamber of Commerce took over the front grassy lot of the Middletown Square Shopping Center Saturday afternoon for Rocktoberfest, which featured nine bands battling it out to be called "the best" in town. In the end, two bands—The Remnants (junior division) and 3 Sheets (adult division)—won the coveted prize packages that included a future local gig, a television interview, a professional video shoot and more.
On Sunday, the tune and pitch shifted as hunters from all over the region pulled out their duck calls for nearly 10 waterfowl calling contests. Hosted by Captain Bones Bait, Tackle and Hunting, the focus was on the Delaware State Duck Calling Championship. Two southern Delaware men—Milford resident Alan Stanley, Jr. and Hartley resident Jon Walczak—competed to see who would represent the First State in the World Duck Callling Championships in Stuttgart, Ark., in November.
Walczak won, saying that he was excited to have $500 to go. He added that his strategy in Arkansas would be to "blow clean" and to leave the nerves at home.
