  • Teams of bakers from throughout the Appoquinimink School District will put their culinary skills to the test this weekend in the second-annual Small Cake, Big Bake event at Middletown High School.
Seven teams of elementary, middle and high school students – working with friends and family – will concoct two dozen of their tastiest cupcakes during the Saturday morning event, sponsored by the MHS Family, Career and Community Leaders Club.
A juried panel of experts will then determine a winner, with audience members also able to sample the sweets.
Celebrity judges will include Amanda Nichols from Middletown’s Half-Baked Patisserie and local, award-winning baker Jessica Willoughby.
Community members are invited to show their support and a $3 admission fee will entitle visitors to sample each of cupcake flavors to help determine a crowd favorite.
Bakers will arrive at MHS about 8 a.m. with fan tastings to begin about 9:30 a.m.
