  • A 19-year-old Bear man was seriously injured Tuesday evening when he rear-ended another car on U.S. Route 301.
Gabriel A. Cintron-Torres suffered a possible spinal injury during the two-car crash on northbound Route 301, near Peterson Road, according to Middletown Police Chief Henry Tobin III.
He had to be freed from his car by emergency responders from Volunteer Hose Company of Middletown and was later flown to Christiana Hospital.
Tobin said Cintron-Torres had been speeding and was not wearing a seatbelt when he drove his Mazda Protégé into the back end of a northbound Honda Accord about 6:15 p.m.
The driver of the Honda, 41-year-old Middletown resident Sudheer Bathula, and his 10-year-old son, who was also in the car, were both wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash and did not require medical attention, Tobin said.
The crash remains under investigation and charges against Cintron-Torres are pending, he said.
