  • Holiday shoppers looking for deep discounts, holiday cheer, and a perfect place for their kids to burn off some post-Thanksgiving energy will find all three this Thanksgiving weekend at the Delaware Children's Museum.
Starting on Black Friday, Nov. 29 and continuing through Sunday, Dec. 1, yearlong Discoverer-level memberships will be on sale for 25 percent off. These memberships normally start at $140.
"It's the best deal the DCM offers on memberships all year long," said DCM Director of Marketing and Communications Nicole Kindbeiter.
She added that early bird shoppers who get to the museum between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Black Friday will also delight in storewide discounts in the "Fun in Store" gift shop.
Current and newly joined DCM Members will also enjoy a 20-percent discount that day while non-members will receive a 15-percent discount on all merchandise. "Normally, the discount is only 10-percent and that's for members," Kindbeiter said.
Since children will be much less concerned with shopping, DCM has planned several activities that coincide with the current temporary exhibition, "The Wizard of Oz Children's Educational Exhibit." Kids and kids-at-heart can experience hands-on activities that include engineering catapults, designing paper planes, investigating weather and constructing hot air balloons.
The highlight of the weekend will be when Dorothy, Glinda the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch of the West—all current cast members of the Delaware Children's Theatre production of "The Wizard of Oz"— show up for a Black Friday trip down the yellow brick road that culminates in a special "Munchkin Lunceon." The trio will also perform, shake hands and pose for photos. Kindbeiter said that seats are limited for the luncheon so advance registration is required.
    Highlights include:
