The Firefly Festival created a stir across its social media sites today with several announcements about the 2014 musical event.
Organizers of the Firefly Music Festival took to Facebook and Twitter on Monday to make several major announcements that affect the third installment of the festival which is scheduled for June 2014.
First, at 10:56 a.m., the Firefly Festival's Twitter page posted a photo of the Festival that read "Introducing: Firefly 2014—Four days. Seven stages. 100 artists."
The announcement means one extra full day of music and three more stages. The number of artists that will be performing is also expanding by more than 25 percent as 30 additional artists are added to the ever-growing yearly list.
"We're excited to announce the addition of a fourth day to Firefly in 2014," said Firefly Music Festival Director Greg Bostrom. "This will allow for more acts and a heightened experience for our fans in additional to a smooth load-in to 'The Woodlands.'"
About 30 minutes after the Twitter announcement, the Firefly Festival Facebook page made a post about 'a Cyber Monday sale that will begin at 12 a.m., Monday, Dec. 2 and last the entire day until 11:59 p.m. The sale includes general admission, VIP packages, camping and merchandise.
"We're thrilled to offer a Cyber Monday promotion this year to kick off the excitement of the added day and what's to come in 2014," Bostrom added about the event's first-ever pre-Christmas ticket and package sale.
A press release sent out almost simultaneously by Red Frog Events, the umbrella organization for the festival, confirmed the social media announcements. The release also stated that all previously purchased tickets would be upgraded to include the full four days. However, according to event organizers, this sale will be the lowest possible prices for the 2014 event and will also be the last time fans are able to purchase tickets before the lineup is released next year closer to the event dates.

More information about the 2014 lineup will be made available early next year.
In 2012, the first year of the festival boasted a much smaller roster of 48 acts across four stages that included artists like Jack White, The Killers, The Black Keys, Modest Mouse and Imagine Dragons, which were supposed to appeal to a thirty-something age bracket with expendable income. In 2013, the lineup increased to 70 with artists like Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Vampire Weekend, Foster the People, Ellie Goulding and Haim, who also made their first appearance on Saturday Night Live over the weekend.
At the close of Firefly 2013, it was estimated that more than 65,000 people flooded Delaware's capital city. The success of the first two years fostered a 10-year agreement that was also announced on the final day of the 2013 festival, making the Dover International Speedway—also referred to as The Woodlands during the event—the home of the music festival for the next decade.
