  • A New York woman was arrested Thursday during the second undercover prostitution sting at a Middletown massage parlor in two months.
Xiu Loan Zhang, a 44-year-old employee of the Massage Center in the Middletown Square Shopping Center, is accused of offering to perform sexual services on an undercover detective in exchange for money.
The detective declined the offer, but Middletown Police and troopers from the Delaware State Police soon returned to the business at 867 N. Broad St. with search warrant charging her with prostitution, according to Middletown Police Department Chief Henry Tobin III.
Zhang, who lives in Flushing, N.Y., is being held at the Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution in Wilmington after failing to post a $500 secured bail, Tobin said.
Zhang is the second employee of the year-old Massage Center to be charged with prostitution.
Chunyan Li, a 45-year-old woman also from Flushing, was charged with prostitution following a similar undercover operation on Nov. 25 that Tobin said was prompted by public complaints.
At that time, Massage Center owner Da Zhong Wang claimed Li was innocent.
“We follow the law of Middletown and I don’t believe my employee committed any crime,” he said through a translator. “Do not make any conclusions before the courts come to a decision.”
Tobin said Friday that an investigation into the business remains ongoing.
