  • 2013 Conservation Poster Contest winners announced

  • The New Castle, Kent, and Sussex Conservation Districts recently sponsored a conservation poster contest.
    This year's theme was "Where Does Your Water Shed?" More than 100 posters were judged in the following categories: K-1; 2-3; 4-6; 7-9; 10-12.
    Listed are the first place winners from each county:

    K-1, New Castle County, no entries; Kent County: Stephanie Strachar, Lake Forest North ; Sussex County, no entries.
    2-3, New Castle County: Eason Li Rain, Independence School; Kent County: Rain Vasey, Water Girl Farm, Academy Home School; Sussex County, no entries.

    4-6, New Castle County: Madeleine Morris, All Saints Catholic School; Kent County: Lake Vasey, Water Girl Farm, Academy Home School; Sussex County, Dorothy McCormick.

    7-9, New Castle County: Alexis Ferguson, Middletown High School; Kent County: Maylene Ferrin, Ferrin Homeschool, Spring Vasey, Water Girl Farm, Academy Home School; Sussex County, no first place award.
    10-12, New Castle County, no entries; Kent County: Dean Ferrin, Ferrin Homeschool; Carissa James, Dover High School; Sussex County, no first place award.

    Second and third place winners were:
    New Castle County
    Second place:Olivia Knestaut – 4thgrade, All Saints Catholic School; David Hall – 9thgrade, Middletown High School.
    Third place:Jack Sweeney – 4thgrade, All Saints Catholic School; Taylor Cameron – 9thgrade, Middletown High School.
    Kent County
    Second place:Matthew Reed – 3rdgrade, Campus Community School; Madelyn Reed – 4thgrade, Campus Community School; Zachary Strachar – 9thgrade, Polytech High School; Emily Calanza – 11thgrade, Dover High School.
    Third place:Nicholas Sampson – Dover High School.
