Middletown's Ashley Bailey will compete in track and field events in Australia this summer.
Middletown high school junior Ashley Bailey will be traveling "Down Under" this summer to represent the United States as part of the Western Conference Track and Field team at the 2014 Under Sports Program, a three-day event on the Gold Coast of Australia.
Bailey has consistently been one of the best female pole vaulters in Delaware while at Middletown.
"I am excited to have the opportunity to compete internationally. I look forward to making my family, friends and the State of Delaware proud of me by performing at my best," Bailey said.
Bailey currently owns the Middletown record in the Polevault and the 300 Hurdles. She was first team All-State for the Polevault as a freshman and a sophomore and was 11th in the nation at the 2013 Nationals USATF Junior Olympic Games.
In addition to her excellence on the track, she is also a level 5 competitive cheerleader for the past three years and is highly ranked in Power Tumbling. Bailey hopes to compete in the Junior Olympic Trials in February and March.
In the Down Under Games, Bailey will compete in the Polevault, 300 Hurdles, High Jump, Long Jump, and Relays. She is currently seeking support for her trip. Visit www.Downundersports.com. Ashley is the daughter of Carl and Penelope Bailey of Townsend.
