By the way, this blog's name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, \x34All politics is applesauce.\x34 In 41 years as a print and broadcast journalist, most of those years with the Rockford (Ill.) Register Star, Pat has covered national politics under eight American presidents. He's attended 10 national political conventions, Republican and Democratic alike, and has interviewed countless prominent political players, including Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, Gerald Ford and George H.W. Bush.

Partly as a way of toying with some of my Facebook friends of the conservative variety, I’ve predicted several times that President Obama eventually will green-light the Keystone XL Pipeline project.

Granted, my expectations in this matter have stemmed mostly from little more than a gut feeling about the politics of the issue.

But now Doyle McManus has come up with an ESSAY that makes me more confident that I’ve been right all along:

The debate over the Keystone XL pipeline may look like just another example of the partisan divide on Capitol Hill. If only it were that easy....
