  • An 18-year-old Middletown man is facing criminal charges after allegedly trying to steal a pack of cigarettes from a local Mexican grocery store last month.
Noah Stewart of Faith Lane tried to grab the smokes out of the hands of a 48-year-old cashier at El Navado Grocery Store in the unit block of North Broad Street on Jan. 26, according to Lt. Michael Kelly of the Middletown Police Departement.
A struggle ensued and Stewart ended up fleeing the store empty handed, Kelly said.
Detectives obtained footage from the store’s video surveillance system and were able later able to identify Stewart as the suspect, he said.
Officers obtained a search warrant and raided Stewart’s home on Wednesday.
There, they found Stewart, evidence further linking him to the attempted robbery, as well as a small amount of marijuana, Kelly said.
Stewart is charged with attempted robbery and possession of marijuana.
He was later released after posting a $5,500 unsecured bail.
