Caravel Academy, seeded #3 in the girls basketball state tournament, cruised to a second round win over the 14th-seeded Appoquinimink High School Jaguars Thursday night. Now the Bucs advance to Saturday's quarterfinals.

The Appoquinimink High School girls basketball team, coming off a first-round victory on Tuesday, ran into a brick wall in the form of Caravel Academy in round two of the state tournament Thursday night.

The Bucs are seeded #3 in the tournament, while the Jaguars received the #14 seed in the 24-team field.

Caravel jumped out to a 17-6 lead in the first quarter and cruised to the 83-28 victory.

Top scorers for the Jaguars were Amber Cale with 12 and Naiyana Davis with 10

Ky'Asia Stanford led Caravel with 19 points, while Michah Morgan poured in 18.


Now Caravel (17-4) advances to play #11 Sussex Central on Saturday at the University of Delaware's Bob Carpenter Center at 2 p.m., in the quarterfinals. Sussex Central upset #6 Conrad Thursday night.
