  • A 39-year-old Middletown man is facing a DUI following a five-vehicle crash in Smyrna on Friday that sent three people to the hospital.
    Brian E. Jones of Horseshoe Drive was driving north on U.S. Route 13 at about 6:37 p.m. when his Ford pickup rear-ended a Dodge Journey that was stopped in a turn lane at Pharmacy Drive about , according to Smyrna police.
    The collision forced the Dodge to spin, resulting in a chain reaction that resulted in damage to three other vehicles, police said.
    The female driver of the Dodge and the driver of another vehicle reportedly suffered serious injuries in the crash.
    Jones suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Kent General Hospital in Dover.
    Jones is charged with driving under the influence, vehicular assault and other charges, police said.
    He later was released on a $2,550 secured bond.
