  • All school in the Middletown-Odessa-Townsend area are closed today due to the latest winter storm, which brought nearly 3 to 4 inches of snow to southern New Castle County overnight.
Another 1 to 3 inches of new snow could fall before 1 p.m. today, the National Weather Service reports.
The Appoquinimink School District, MOT Charter School, St. Georges Technical High School and St. Anne's Episcopal School all announced closures before 6 a.m. Monday.

Other public school districts in New Castle County initially had called for a two-hour delay today before announcing school closures. All school districts in the state eventually closed for the day.

New Castle County Government announced its offices would be opening on time, although employees are being given two hours of liberal leave this morning to make it into work.
State offices in New Castle County were slated to open at 10 a.m. with essential employees to report as scheduled, while state offices in Kent and Sussex will be closed today.
"We strongly encourage drivers who do not need to travel to delay or refrain from going on the roads to give DelDOT plows time and ability to work," Gov. Jack Markell said in a statement released after 5 a.m. "Expected snowfall totals are not as significant in New Castle County, but we still encourage those traveling in the northern part of the state to use caution and allow extra time to reach their destination today."
