  • Six Odyssey of the Mind teams from the Middletown-Odessa-Townsend area qualified for the problem-solving competition’s 2014 World Finals on Saturday.
MOT Charter School will be sending as many as three teams to the international competition at Iowa State University in late May, after its middle school-age teams won first place at the state finals in the “It’s How We Rule,” “Not-So-Haunted House” and “Stackable Structure” problems.
A team from Cedar Lane Elementary School also qualified for the world finals after earning first place at the elementary school-level competition in the “It’s How We Rule” problem.
Teams from Silver Lake Elementary School and Appoquinimink High School also earned spots at the world finals with second-place finishes in their respective age groups in the “Seeing Is Believing” problem.
Nearly 100 teams from throughout Delaware put their problem-solving skills to the test during the state finals at Smyrna High School, including nine teams from the M.O.T. area that qualified for the event with top finishes at regional-level competition on March 8.
Teams that earned advancement to the World Finals last weekend must now solve one more problem: raising the money needed to fund their trip.
