  • Local students earn honors at Delaware Science Olympiad

  • Dozens of students from the Middletown-Odessa-Townsend area earned medals last month during Delaware Science Olympiad competitions at Delaware State University.
    Middletown and Appoquinimink high schools each sent two teams of 15 students to the Division C competition held March 1, while MOT Charter School, Alfred G. Waters Middle School and Louis L. Redding Middle School sent teams to the Division B competition on March 15.
    During the events, the teams compete in 24 challenges that involve a wide range of STEM-related subjects.
    Fifty-eight teams competed at this year’s high school-level tournament where a Middletown High team finished in ninth place, while one Appoquinimink High team finished in 10th and the other finished 11th. A second Middletown High team finished 17th, despite entering only 23 challenges.
    Fifty-one teams competed at this year’s middle school-level tournament, where a team from MOT Charter finished in 10th place, one team from Waters Middle finished in 20th place, another finished 27th and a partial team from Redding Middle finished 42nd, despite entering only 7 challenges.
