  • Gold Alert issued for missing Townsend veteran

  • Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a Townsend-area veteran missing since Thursday morning.
    Lee Riley, 66, was last seen leaving the Wilmington VA Medical Center in the 1600 block of Kirkwood Highway about 10 a.m., according to Delaware State Police spokesman Cpl. John Day.
    A Gold Alert was issued for Riley on Friday morning.
    Police believe he may be attempting to travel to Washington D.C. or California.
    Riley is described as black, about 6-feet tall, 150 pounds and bald.
    He also is a double-amputee who may be wearing one or both of his prosthetic legs and may be using a manually-propelled wheelchair, Day said.
    He last was seen wearing brown overalls, a Vietnam veteran hat and white sneakers.
    No photographs of Riley are available, Day said.
