  • The Delaware State Chamber of Commerce announced the winners of its Superstars in Education program April 17, and a Middletown school was on the list of award recipients.
Bunker Hill Elementary won the award in the science category for the "Mission: Space" lessons which involved the "STEM" skills -- science, technology, engineering, and math.
The lessons focused on Earth science, the solar system, and space travel and technology.
An after-school event which helped to reinforce the lessons attracted more than 200 students, parents, and faculty members for space-themed fun and hands-on education.
Bunker Hill Elementary's program was among only nine entries chosen as Superstars in Education award winners from 44 applications from throughout the state.
The winners will be recognized at the awards ceremony on May 5 at the Sheraton Wilmington South Hotel.
Since 1989, the Superstars in Education program has honored Delaware educators who have implemented and sustained a creative, unique program, or a teaching practice that shows measurable results and raises student achievement. This statewide awards program is funded by the business community.
