  • The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash in which a pedestrian was struck and killed on U.S. Route 13 in New Castle Monday night.
The crash occurred at approximately 9:35 p.m., as Kimberly Cage, 38, of Delaware City was attempting to cross the northbound lanes of North DuPont Highway (U.S.13) from the center median, north of School Lane. Police said Cage entered the left lane of travel as a northbound 2002 Mercedes-Benz M50 sports-utility vehicle was approaching, driven by Christina Bentil,50, of Bear.
Cage suffered multiple traumatic injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Bentil was properly restrained and was not injured.
Police said the preliminary investigation indicates that Cage attempted to cross northbound lanes of U.S. 13 in an eastbound direction from the center median, not within a designated or marked crosswalk.
North DuPont Highway northbound was initially closed and then was restricted to one lane of travel for approximately two hours after the accident.
Troopers continue to investigate this crash and no charges have been filed.
