  • Three budding constitutional scholars at MOT Charter School received cash prizes earlier this month after their essays received top awards from the Lower New Castle County Republican Women’s Club.
The club’s Americanism Committee sponsored the nonpartisan essay contest, in which 75 eighth graders at the school wrote about “What the Preamble of the Constitution Means to Me.”
First-place winner Joanna Jones received $100, while second-place finisher Alexander Yu earned $75 and third-place finisher Shachi Shah received $50 during an award ceremony on April 11. All participating students also received a copy of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States.
