Caesar Rodney outscored Appoquinimink 21-3 in boys' lacrosse Saturday afternoon.
It was a banner day for the Caesar Rodney boys’ lacrosse team in their game against visiting Appoquinimink on a warm and humid Saturday afternoon.
The Jaguars actually scored the first goal of the game, but the Riders controlled play the rest of the day in a convincing 21-3 victory over the Jaguars.
The highly-ranked Riders were led offensively by David Schmidt, who scored four goals, and Austin Hayward, Sean MacLeish, Hunter Schaeffer and Thomas Aloe all contributed three goals in the lop-sized victory.
After the initial goal, Caesar Rodney jump-started its offense and went on to score six goals in the first quarter. But the Riders would not let up and they would not be denied as they went on to score a total of eight goals in the second quarter to build a 14-2 lead at the half.
During a time out in the second period, the Appoquinimink players and coaches remained in high spirits, encouraging each other the stay focused, and to keep playing hard. To their credit, the Jaguars battled throughout the game, but just didn’t have the firepower to keep up with the Riders.
Caesar Rodney kept up the pressure and controlled the tempo in the third quarter and added four more goals, while the Jags were able to slip one goal past Rider goalkeeper Tyler Gross.
CR’s defense kept Appo off the board in the fourth period, and the Riders added three more goals to their total.
John Dunbar scored two goals for the Jags, while Nick Ferrara scored the other goal.
Caesar Rodney blitzed Appoquinimink with 41 shots for the game, while the Jaguars
Managed eight shots against the stingy Rider defense.
