  • A man and a woman were arrested Monday in Middletown following two assaults.
At approximately 9:15 p.m., Middletown Police were dispatched to Pennington Street after a report of a fight in progress.
Officers talked with the two suspects, Scotty Marcum, 49, and Rebecca Smith, 37, and a 64-year-old woman who had been physically assaulted, police said.
Marcum failed to comply with the officers' commands. He resisted arrest and was taken into custody after an officer used the departmentally issued, conducted electrical weapon.
The investigation revealed that Rebecca Smith physically assaulted the 64-year-old woman.
Marcum then used his flashlight, which was also an electronic stun device, on Smith, shocking her several times.
Both Marcum and Smith were charged with second-degree assault, police said. Marcum was also charged with resisting arrest.
Both were arraigned and were later released.
Marcum was examined at the Christiana Care Emergency Room in Middletown and released. He was issued a $6,000 unsecured bond and ordered to have no unlawful contact with the victim.
Smith was issued $2,500 unsecured bond and also ordered to have no unlawful contact with the victim.
The 64-year-old female victim did not require any medical attention.
