  • DNREC announces youth fishing tournament results

  • The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control announced the winners of Delaware’s 28th annual youth fishing tournament, which spanned Sussex, Kent and New Castle counties.

  • The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control announced the winners of Delaware’s 28th annual youth fishing tournament, which spanned Sussex, Kent and New Castle counties.
    The overall statewide winner, 15-year-old Sarah Deason, of Harrington, was also the Kent County overall winner with 14.9 pounds of caught fish.  The biggest individual fish of the day was a carp weighing 12 pounds caught by 9-year-old Alyssa Sweetman, of Middletown, also winning the New Castle County overall category. The Sussex County overall category was won by 7-year-old Andrew Wertz Jr., of Lewes, with 2.74 pounds of fish caught.
    In New Castle County in the 4-7 age group, Tyler Trzonkowski, 5, of Middletown took first place with 2.27 pounds; Emily Trzonkowski, 7, of Middletown, took second with 1.56 pounds; and Benjamin Barker, 6, of Townsend took third with 1.05 pounds.
    In the 8-11 age group, Ava Briton, 11, of Middletown, took first place with 3.73 pounds and Brian Wilfong, 8, of Middletown took second with 3.44 pounds of fish caught.
    In the 12-15 age group, Sam Griffith, age 12, of Middletown, took first place with 4.49 pounds; and Emma Griffith, 15, of Middletown took second with 1.91 pounds.
    In Kent County in the 4-7 age group, Joseph Salvcia, age 7, of Dover, took first place with 4.45 pounds; Jonathan Pollock, age 6, of Middletown, took second with 1.64 pounds; and Phoebe Wong, age 4, of Frederica, took third with 1.39 pounds.
    In the 8-11 age group, Michael Greco, age 9, of Dover, took first place with 4.87 pounds; Lauren Pollock, 11, of Middletown, took second with 4.17 pounds; and Allyson Lebendig, 8, of Magnolia, took third with 2.96 pounds.
    In the 12-15 age group, Samantha Stetzar, 14, of Magnolia, took first place with 0.96 pounds: and Emily Greckle, 14, of Camden, took second with 0.52 pounds.
    In Sussex County, in the 4-7 age group, Brayden Stewart, age 2, of Georgetown, took first place with 1.25 pounds; Nathan Emplit, age 5, of Millsboro, took second with 0.91 pounds; and Eric Luciano Jr., age 7, of Georgetown, took third with 0.72 pounds.
    In the 8-11 age group, Zackery Hicks, age 9, of Greenwood, took first place with 2.01 pounds; Tiffany Andrie, age 9, of Dagsboro, took second with 1.32 pounds; and Garrett Rogers, age 8, of Millsboro, took third with 1.08 pounds.
    In the 12-15 age group, Sam Lekites, age 12, of Bishopville, Maryland, took first place with 2.25 pounds; Kelly Philips, age 12, of Frankford, took second with 1.95 pounds; and Catherine Mutschler, age 12, of Frankford, took third with 1.70 pounds.
    The three county winners will be presented their trophies at the DNREC awards ceremony held July 24 at the 2014 Delaware State Fair in Harrington.
