  • Work crews from Delmarva Power were out Monday morning fixing power lines after a dump truck struck electrical wires at the intersection of U.S. Route 13 and Summit Bridge Road near Townsend.
According to Delaware State Police, the incident occurred Aug. 10 at 10:25 p.m. when a 2004 Mack dump truck operated by William E. Swiggett, 67, of Dover was entering the highway from a designated storage area for equipment owned by Daisy Construction. The company is performing road work in the area.
“As the dump truck entered the roadway, it struck wires with its dump bucket which was in the up position,” said Master Corporal Jeffrey R. Hale.
U.S. Route 13 was closed for several hours as Delmarva Power responded to replace the pole.
According to Hale, Swiggett was cited for inattentive driving.
