Southern New Castle County is currently under a flood advisory until 7:45 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

The agency’s Doppler Radar has indicated heavy to moderate rainfall across the Middletown-Odessa-Townsend region. More than one inch of rain is expected or has already fallen in many locations.

Runoff from the rain will result in roadway flooding in areas of poor drainage. In addition, minor flooding is possible on small streams and creeks, according to the advisory.

As a precaution, drivers are advised to avoid areas where water covers the roadway since the depth may be too great to allow your car to cross safely.

Flood advisories are also in effect for coastal areas until 5 a.m. Wednesday.
